Dallas (1080 KRLD) - Dallas County will require face masks inside schools and businesses, following an executive order signed by Judge Clay Jenkins on Wednesday.
The mask mandate applies to all child care centers and Pre-K-12 public schools. It would not apply to children under the age of two.
Indoor masking will also be required inside all Dallas County buildings going forward.
The order goes into effect at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11.
The move comes a day after Jenkins secured a temporary restraining order against Gov. Greg Abbott's mask mandate ban.
In her ruling, 116th Civil District Court Judge Tonya Parker wrote, "immediate and irreparable injury, loss, or damage will result" if Jenkins cannot mandate mitigation measures against COVID-19.
The Dallas and Fort Worth school districts have already defied the governor’s orders by requiring masks on all campuses. With the Dallas County mandate, some parents hope other school districts will follow suit.
