A jury in Dallas has decided punishment for a cop killer.

Phillip Mabry of Little Rock, Arkansas has been sentenced to 30-years in prison for the February 2021 accident that killed Dallas police officer Mitchell Penton.

Court records show Phillip Mabry of Little Rock Arkansas was arrested for slamming into the back of a squad car that was guarding an accident site on 75 Central at Walnut Hill in February of 2021.

The impact pushed the car into Dallas Police Officer Mitchell Penton, who had been helping with traffic control. Penton was killed.

The charge was intoxication manslaughter of a peace officer. Mabry was given the chance to testify, but declined.

During closing arguments prosecutors said it was a simple case, that Mabry was under the influence of alcohol and that his car was a deadly weapon.

Testimony showed the car driven by Mabry was going 86 miles an hour at the time of the impact.
