DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Thousands of Dallas County voters will be getting two mail-in ballots ahead of the upcoming election, and a minor glitch is behind the do-over.
10,000 mail-in ballots were sent that were defective. They omitted the oval and line for write-in candidates for three races: Congressional District 30 and State Board of Education Districts 11 and 12. By state law replacement ballots had to be mailed meaning 10,000 people have two ballots. Dallas County Elections Administrator Mike Scarpello says there's little chance the votes will be counted twice.
Because of the mistake the Texas Elections Code mandates the County Elections Department to send out a second, corrected ballot to the voters affected.
Reports say they have now done that. The County Elections Department has also given instructions for people who received a second ballot. They say even if someone got two ballots in the mail - they can still vote in person if they want to.
Dallas County Democrats want to remind anyone affected:
If you surrender either ballot at your polling place, you will be able to vote a regular ballot, not a provisional ballot.
You also have the ability to submit a Request to Cancel Application for a Ballot by Mail, no later than Saturday, November 5th, and, if you do so, you will also be able to vote a regular ballot in person (not a provisional ballot).
