Dallas County has a new Elections Administrator as of Wednesday morning.

Paul Adams was sworn in following the departure of Heider Garcia who spent several years in both Tarrant and Dallas Counties as Elections Administrator.

Adams says he understands the pressure associated with running elections especially in the current political environment.

For those who are hesitant when it comes to elections he has some advice.

"One of my responsibilities, one of the things I think is important for us as elections officials is to get information out," Adams said. "The first time I went to vote, it was intimidating, I get that."

Adams comes from Lorain County, Ohio which is suburban Cleveland. He knows firsthand what it is like to be under the microscope as Ohio used to be a Battleground State and came under scrutiny during the 2004 Presidential Election.

"We got through that, and you get through that by going back to basics, making sure you're building connections with people in the community and building that nuts and bolts process to make sure it's being done correctly," he said.

Adams served as Director of Elections for Lorain County, Ohio and previously worked in the Elections Division for the Ohio Secretary of State, coordinating the statewide voter registration database.
