With a Winter Weather Warning currently in place for North Texas until Friday, KRLD is watching the chance for power outages and so are first responders like Dallas Fire Rescue.
Their Jason Evans says during every storm, someone tries to bring an outdoor grill indoors to warm their home. That is dangerous, and can even be deadly because the grills give off carbon monoxide.
Evans warns that a fireplace could also be a problem if it hasn't been inspected. He says severe weather changes could alter your chimney.
"The cause is those components that make up the chimney, sometimes compromise certain areas and if you get heat that gets outside of the fluid into the walls, that could cause a fire within your chimney."
Evans also warns against driving on slick roads. He says it's hard enough for the fire department to respond with big trucks that are driving on ice. Other drivers only make the problem worse.
