Officials in the Dallas ISD continue to sort out a recent data breach that includes Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and names of current and former students, staffers, and parents.
The district said the attack occurred about a month ago, and that while the information in question has been removed from the DISD website, they have yet to verify the data has not been shared publicly. Officials said law enforcement has been notified, and that they know of no instance of fraud or identity theft related to the breach.
The Dallas ISD breach was announced the same day Biden administration officials warned of potential cyberattacks over the Labor Day weekend.
Cybersecurity expert Gary Davis with Plano-based INTRUSION spoke with KRLD's Chris Sommer and explained why hackers tend to strike over holiday weekends. He also shared advice for those who believe they may have been impacted by the Dallas ISD breach.
