The suspected shooter in the Wilmer-Hutchins High School shooting on Tuesday was inside the school for less than two minutes and was let into the building through a locked side door, the Dallas ISD police chief says.

Chief Albert Martinez said the suspected shooter, 17-year-old Tracy Haynes, is a student at the school. Four students were injured in the shooting, and a fifth suffered injuries while trying to run away.

Martinez acknowledged growing frustration among parents, particularly in light of a previous shooting at the school last year.

"We're doing all the things that we're expected to do, and what's frustrating is that he was able to come in through another door, that yes we patrol that and we sweep that as well," Martinez said. "But like everything else, we're not able to be there right on that spot every single time and there's a lot of entry doors into this high school."

The chief also addressed reports suggesting the shooting may have been linked to a gang dispute, stating that investigators are actively looking into that possibility.

The four injured students are expected to recover, according to officials. The investigation remains ongoing.
