Frustration is growing among Dallas city leaders because of inaction when it comes to regulating short term rentals.

A new proposal before the Dallas City council would prevent short-term rentals with companies like Air BNB in single-family residential neighborhoods.

Some residents have complained to elected officials about noise, trash and crime due to parties and transient people staying at the unregulated rentals and the full city council was suppose to vote on the new proposal by now.

But now, city staff says code enforcement and legal issues have bogged that down. And some property owners are fighting back saying they should be able to rent out their homes for the the extra income.

Councilman Omar Narvaez says residents need action. "I'm just perplexed that we are to a point now -- we've been working on this issue for four years. I expected this by March, and now you're saying April."

Some have pointed out that Fort Worth got new rules put in place concerning managing short term rentals in a lot less time.

A full Dallas city council briefing on the issue is scheduled to happen in April.
