Starting Monday, Love Field will lose the use of one of its two runways. The city is assuring customers they won't notice significant delays.

The runway nearest to Lemmon Avenue will be out of service until the end of October. It will not be torn apart, it will be rehabbed and improved.

Love Field has handled closed runways before. Just a couple of years ago the other runway was completely pulled apart and rebuilt. The aviation director then, Mark Duebner, says doing this rehab in stages is smart.

He says there is massive, behind-the-scenes planning to keep the only usable runway open in the event of an emergency or delays caused by bad weather.
