Dallas man charged with murder for Red Bird area shooting that killed one person, injured four others

A 21-year-old man is in custody on a murder charge after a shooting that left one person dead and four others injured at an event venue in the Red Bird area, Dallas police said.

Officers arrested Jesus Torres on Monday afternoon. The shooting happened at the Verbazend Creations & Event Venue on West Wheatland Road near Interstate 20, where detectives believe a fight escalated before one man opened fire.

Five people were shot and taken to a hospital. One victim died, and another remained in critical condition as of the latest update, police said.

Torres, who was also hospitalized after the incident, has since been booked into the Dallas County jail. He faces a murder charge, and his bond had not been set.
