A Dallas man has pleaded guilty to shooting a Hill County constable in the face after a wild, three-county chase in May 2021.

Court records show 21-year-old Hector Murillo pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to 55-years in prison in Hill County for wounding Constable Kevin Cordell.

Both Hector and his twin brother Adrian Murillo had faced charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when they were allowed out of the Dallas County jail on ankle monitors.

The records show five different cases in which four people were threatened with guns. Records also show that prosecutors had asked that the two be held without bond, but that a State District Court allowed both brothers to post bail and be released with the electronic monitors. The records say both men subsequently cut off their monitors and had been on the run.

On April 5, 2021 the two were spotted in Dallas County and a chase began.

The chase started in Dallas County and led police through Johnson County and into Hill County where Constable Kevin Cordell became involved. When the car with the Murillo brothers crashed, gunfire began. Adrian Murillo was killed and Constable Cordell was wounded in the face.

Cordell has lingering issues from that facial injury, but he approved of the Hill County plea deal. Murillo still faces a prior murder case in Dallas County.
