Dallas Mavericks assistant coach Darrell Armstrong faces a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, police say.

Dallas police say Armstrong, 56, hit a woman with a gun and threatened to shoot her during an argument. The incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. Saturday in the 1000 block of Ross Avenue.

Armstrong, who has been with the Mavericks for over a decade, was taken into custody and later posted a bond of $35,000. The victim, who was treated at the scene by Dallas Fire-Rescue, has not been publicly identified. The Mavericks have placed Armstrong on administrative suspension pending the outcome of legal proceedings.

The NBA has yet to comment on the incident, but the Mavericks released a statement saying they are gathering all relevant information and taking the matter seriously. Armstrong, a former NBA player, joined the Mavericks' coaching staff in 2009 and has been a key part of the team's development.
