Dallas, TX — May 8, 2025 — Following the fatal shooting of an aggressive coyote near Reverchon Park on the Katy Trail, city officials are urging residents to report sightings of dangerous or erratic coyotes to local authorities.

The incident occurred Tuesday when a Dallas deputy marshal responded to a citizen’s report of a coyote approaching them while walking their dog. The animal was shot after moving toward a populated area, and its remains will be tested for rabies.

The City of Dallas has established an 'aggressive coyote hotline' to report concerns - 469-676-9813.

The Dallas Animal Services (DAS) advises residents to report aggressive coyotes by calling 311 or using the Dallas 311 app.

If a coyote poses an immediate threat, residents should contact 911. Officials recommend avoiding direct interaction with coyotes, securing trash bins, and keeping pets on a leash in areas where sightings have been reported.

The shooting comes amid growing concerns about urban wildlife encounters, with recent reports of coyotes chasing children near White Rock Creek Trail.

City officials are reviewing safety protocols and considering additional measures to address the issue.
