The Dallas Police Association is coming out in opposition to three charter amendments on the ballot.

One of those they oppose would force the city to hire hundreds of additional police officers . Dallas Police Association President Jaime Castro says that could force the city to lower its standards.

"We believe that having over 3,000 officers coming out and say, 'we stand against this,' is going to resonate across the city."

However, the group "Dallas Hero" gathered enough signatures to get the proposal on the ballot. Pete Marocco with the group says it's not the job of the police association to set those policies. "This is a people's proposition. This is about a solution for the City of Dallas and for the police department."

The DPA says leaders of "Dallas Hero" did not consult with association leaders or members before they drafted the proposed amendments.
