The Dallas Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for one of its own.
Dallas Police say, Sgt. James Bristo, 59, is accused of official oppression. Police haven't said much else about the charge just that it stems from an incident last August.
Official oppression means a public servant is accused of using their office to mistreat someone or deny them their rights. It's a Class A misdemeanor.
Both Bristo and the DPD took to social media yesterday. Bristo asked for prayers. The police department posted about the arrest warrant, garnering widely mixed reactions.
Many people are praising the police department for transparency and holding employees accountable. Others say the warrant is politically motivated and disrespectful to the sergeant and his long career. They're calling Bristo, "One of the good ones."
Bristo has been with the DPD since 1988 and serves on the South Central patrol division. He's currently on administrative leave.
KRLD reached out to the DPD but they have declined to comment on the matter. There has been no response from Bristo's lawyer, either.
