Travelers across the Dallas area are jamming roads and flights for July 4th, according to AAA's record holiday forecast, as gas prices rose about 20 cents overnight at many North Texas stations.

AAA projects millions of Texans will hit the road or board planes for Independence Day celebrations, with North Texas contributing heavily to what could be one of the busiest travel periods on record. In Dallas-Fort Worth, DFW Airport alone expects around 1.75 million passengers traveling to, through, or from the facility between July 2 and July 7. Love Field is also seeing strong demand as families and vacationers head out for long weekends at lakes, beaches, or family gatherings across the state and beyond.

Gas prices in the Dallas area have seen a recent uptick, climbing roughly 20 cents overnight at many stations to around $3.10 to $3.20 per gallon for regular unleaded, according to local reports. While still below national averages in some comparisons, the increase comes as drivers fill up ahead of peak travel days. AAA notes that despite fluctuations, fuel costs remain a key factor for the roughly 85% of holiday travelers who plan to drive, with Texas seeing nearly 5 million people expected to travel by car.

Airlines are bracing for full flights out of DFW and Love Field, with carriers like American Airlines reporting strong bookings for domestic destinations. Travel experts recommend checking real-time traffic on major routes like I-35, I-20, and I-30, as well as arriving early for flights to beat potential delays from summer weather or high volumes. DFW Airport officials urge passengers to use the airport's app for security wait times and parking updates.

The holiday travel surge highlights North Texas' role as a major transportation hub, with ripple effects on local businesses, restaurants, and services. Officials remind drivers to stay safe, buckle up, and avoid impaired driving as celebrations ramp up.
