Thanks to a new state law the city of Dallas will not be able to ban the use of gas powered lawn mowers as planned.

Since state law trumps local law, Dallas city leaders are now working new on ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality.

The city was planning to ban all businesses and residents from using gas operated landscapping equiptment like lawn mowers, trimmers, and leaf blowers and make everyone switch to electric or battery operated tools instead.

But a new state law that takes effect in September prevents any city, county, or school district from banning the use of equipment based on it's fuel source.

Governor Abbott signed the bill, and without mentioning Dallas specifically, said the new law was needed to, "protect energy choice in Texas."

City leaders still plan encourge people to voluntarily phase out their gas powered tools while working on new ways to improve the city's air quality.
