A 49-year-old Dallas woman, identified as Shanika Battle, was arrested and charged with murder after police say she shot and killed her 28-year-old daughter, Tabatha Jones, during an argument Monday afternoon over missing alcohol at a home in the 800 block of Green Cove Lane in southern Dallas.
Dallas Police Department officers responded to a 911 call just before 4 p.m. after Jones called to report she had been shot, and she was later pronounced dead at a hospital; Battle was taken into custody at the scene.
According to the arrest affidavit, investigators found a spent shell casing in the hallway near Jones’ bedroom and a .380-caliber handgun next to Battle’s purse; Battle told police she took the gun out to “scare” her daughter but denied firing it.
The Dallas Police Department said the two were the only people in the home at the time, and the case remains under investigation as detectives continue to gather evidence.
