The Dallas YMCA has received a $10 million donation, its largest ever, from MacKenzie Scott, the ex-wife of Amazon billionaire Jeffrey Bezos.
The couple were married for more than 25 years and when they divorced last year, Scott received $35 billion in Amazon stock. At the time she made a pledge to give away most of her wealth during her life-time and in her will.
The Dallas YMCA's $10 million is her most recent donation that also includes a $50-million gift to Prairie View A&M.
“This pandemic has been a wrecking ball in the lives of Americans already struggling,” she wrote in the post on Medium. “Economic losses and health outcomes alike have been worse for women, for people of color and for people living in poverty. Meanwhile, it has substantially increased the wealth of billionaires.”
So far, Scott has donated more than $4 billion in four months after announcing $1.7 billion in gifts in July, according to Bloomberg.
