The Dallas Zoo has announced the official name of its female Sumatran tiger cub: Rina, following a public naming contest aimed at raising awareness for wildlife conservation.
Zoo officials said the name honors a ranger with the Sumatran Ranger Project, recognizing those working to protect the critically endangered species in the wild.
The cub’s brother has been named Serasi by zoo staff, also in tribute to a ranger who dedicated his life to conservation efforts in Sumatra.

The cubs recently began exploring their habitat with their mother, Suki, marking a new milestone for the pair. Keepers say the siblings are already showing different personalities, with Serasi displaying a more cautious approach while Rina has emerged as the more adventurous of the two, eagerly exploring her surroundings before being guided back by her mother.
There is no set schedule yet for when the cubs will be visible to the public, but zoo officials say they will rotate through habitat time as they continue to grow. Visitors are encouraged to follow the zoo’s updates for opportunities to see the cubs.
