With high water on the Brazos River, Tx-DOT and DPS have closed Highway 16 in Palo Pinto County.
The Brazos River Authority has opened a third gate at Possum Kingdom Lake's Morris Sheppard Dam, allowing tons of water to spill through into the Brazos river.
The opening of the gate increases the flow through the dam by more than 50 percent.
The Brazos River Authority warns those living in areas on or near the Brazos River that frequently flood to take precautions to protect lives and property.
The American Red Cross is opening a shelter in Weatherford for anyone affected by the flooding. It will open at 10 a.m. at Spring Creek Baptist Church on Spring Creek Road.
