DART begins testing this week on its new Silver Line with trials taking place at stations through North Dallas, Addison, and Downtown Carrollton.
Crews completed the connection of the track from Carrollton to Dallas earlier this month and simulated testing began Sunday from the Downtown Carrollton Station to the University of Texas at Dallas Station in Richardson, DART said.
No passengers will be permitted to board the trains, which will stop at the Downtown Carrollton, Addison, Knoll Trail, and UT-Dallas stations.
“We’ve made substantial progress installing and preparing the track, signals, and crossings to ensure we can test our vehicles in this central segment safely and efficiently,” said Trey Walker, vice president of capital design and construction at DART. “This is a major milestone and continues us on our path to have the Silver Line carrying passengers from Plano to DFW Airport and everywhere in between before year’s end.”
DART said Quiet Zones will not be in effect during testing, however when the Silver Line begins full service, train horns will only be used when necessary for safety.
DART said the Silver Line is more than 90% complete with construction expected to be completed by the end of June.
