This week, Dallas Area Rapid Transit is starting testing along part of its rail system. DART's Silver Line will run from Plano to DFW Airport's Terminal B.

The Silver Line will run 26 miles from Plano to DFW Airport including stops in Richardson, Addison, Carrollton and Coppell. DART plans to start testing along the entire corridor late this summer. Testing is not open to passengers, but DART says the route should open late this year or early 2026.

DART is now running test trains between Downtown Carrollton and UT Dallas in Richardson. DART started testing along parts of the route last fall and says construction on the entire path is now 90% complete.

At DFW Airport, the Silver Line will end at Terminal B. There, passengers can transfer to TEXRail, which offers commuter rail service to Grapevine, North Richland Hills and Downtown Fort Worth. Trinity Metro says a station could extend TEXRail into Fort Worth's Near Southside in 2026.

Silver Line passengers will also be able to transfer to DART's Orange Line at DFW. The Orange Line runs from Downtown Dallas through Irving and Las Colinas before ending at Terminal A. The Orange Line continues north from Downtown Dallas along the same route as the Red Line.

The Silver Line will be a commuter rail line with trains running on diesel. Other DART lines are light rail and powered by overhead electric lines.
