Deep Ellum drivers will soon face higher parking meter rates after a long delay.
Starting May 8, hourly parking rates in the Deep Ellum Paid Parking Area will increase to one dollar per hour. That matches the standard rate across the rest of the city’s parking meters since October 2024.
The city delayed the increase for Deep Ellum because of the ongoing Commerce Street reconstruction project.
Dallas City Council approved the broader rate hike in May 2024 after more than a decade without changes. Officials said the adjustment was needed to manage parking demand, keep up with inflation and improve turnover in high-traffic areas.
Revenue from the meters goes into the city’s general fund. After the May 8 change takes effect, city staff will monitor occupancy rates in Deep Ellum to see if further adjustments are needed under the city’s on-street parking and curb management policy.
Deep Ellum remains one of Dallas’ busiest entertainment districts, drawing crowds to its bars, restaurants, music venues and shops especially on weekends and during special events.
