Today the Denton City Council is expected to discuss a temporary eviction ban to help people struggling in the pandemic.
Denton City Council member Deb Armintor came up with the proposal, which she calls LEEP, or Local Emergency Eviction Prevention.
The relief package would prohibit landlords from posting notices to vacate, something they're legally obligated to do before evicting tenants.
Armintor says it would also create government funds to cover maintenance costs for landlords and property managers.
LEEP could help avert a major crisis after the federal moratorium on evictions expires on Dec. 31, Armintor says. She is expected to ask for a one-minute emergency proposal during today's city council meeting.
Council members will then decide whether or not to discuss the proposal.
