Our Excessive Heat Warning remains in place today, building on Wednesday's heat which brought us our highest temperature in almost a year.

During the 4 p.m. hour DFW Airport's official thermometer touched 105 degrees, the hottest day this year. In fact, it was the hottest since the 109 we registered in a three-day period last year from July 18th to the 20th.

The normal highs for mid-July would be about 95.

Despite the crazy heat Texas fire danger remains low to moderate in 85 percent of the state.

The persistent Storage Fire near Possum Kingdom Lake is still going but it's considered 98 percent contained.

The Texas A&M Forest Service says there are burn bans in place for 77 of the 254 counties in the state.
