EV
GETTY

Within the next few decades, sales of EVs will bypass their gas-reliant counterparts. How set up is DFW to handle that trend? According to a new study from Yardi Matrix, not bad.

North Texas comes in as the nation's 15th best electric car hotspot. DFW also takes the top spot in Texas.

"You're doing well in the availability of land and the progressive policies for the city of Dallas as well as the state of Texas to be able to embrace EV technology," says Doug Ressler, Manager of Business Intelligence at Yardi Matrix.

Ressler adds that there are shortcomings to the North Texas EV market.

"Where the shortage is is being able to extend the charging stations to more suburban locations," Ressler said. "And also to implement charging stations in existing locations like rental apartment housing, parking garages and things like that."

Most of the Top 20 areas for EVs were on the West Coast. Miami (#8), Baltimore (#12), and DFW (#15) were some of the exceptions.
