An American Airlines flight from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport to Honolulu was forced to turn back Tuesday due to a tsunami warning triggered by a powerful earthquake off the Russian coast, according to flight tracking data.

FlightAware shows the flight was en route to Daniel K. Inouye International Airport when it was diverted and returned to DFW. The warning followed an 8.8-magnitude earthquake near Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, which struck early Wednesday local time — still Tuesday in the U.S. — prompting alerts across the Pacific, including Alaska, Hawaii and the West Coast.

A spokesperson for Fort Worth-based American Airlines confirmed the diversion and said passengers will be rebooked for travel to Hawaii on Wednesday. The airline reported no other related delays or cancellations.
