With North Texas experiencing rapid population growth, Downtown Dallas businesses are exploring ways to grow their neighborhood. Downtown Dallas Inc. reports that visitors from across the metroplex visit the area for events and festivals about four to five times each year.
There are 170 events scheduled in parks alone for 2024, according to CEO Jennifer Scripps.
"We want to continue to grow this, and we have the biggest event ever coming in less than two years with the FIFA (World Cup)," she said
Addressing homelessness has also been a top priority, as many businesses cite it as a key concern. Interim City Manager Kim Tolbert noted that in the first 100 days of a new city initiative with local nonprofits, 107 people were placed in housing.
"The business community truly wanted to be involved in the solution, which was refreshing," she said. "I believe we have the work - the model has started."
Scripps added that efforts are underway to attract a grocery store to the area, which would further support the downtown community’s growth and appeal.
