A fire Saturday at an apartment complex in Dallas' Highland Meadows neighborhood displaced dozens of families just weeks before the holidays.
Dallas Fire-Rescue reported the fire, which broke out Saturday morning on Amanda Lane, was brought under control within an hour. However, firefighters spent several hours extinguishing hot spots.
Two people were taken to the hospital for evaluation due to smoke inhalation.
The blaze destroyed at least 12 units, causing a roof collapse and significant structural damage. The affected units were later demolished.
The American Red Cross is assisting displaced families but noted that some residents left the scene before volunteers arrived. Impacted families are encouraged to contact the Red Cross for help at 1-800-RED-CROSS.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
