Dozens treated after inhaling noxious fumes at south Texas water park

Dozens of people are recovering from inhaling noxious fumes at a Houston-area water park over the weekend.

Thousands of people were beating the heat at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Splashtown in Spring when sickness began to spread with many complaining of swollen eyes, persistent cough and trouble breathing.

At least 30 people including adults and children were rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Many others were treated at the scene.

While the substance has not been identified in full, the Harris County Fire Marshal issued a statement that the chemicals in question are believed to be a mixture of sulfuric acid and bleach which are common cleaning solutions in pools and water attractions. The question is how the chemicals were allowed to mix.
