A federal judge has decided not to give convicted Kaufman County killer Eric William more time and money to appeal his death penalty sentence.

Federal Judge David Godbey is not persuaded that the defense team for former Kaufman County judge Eric Williams still needs time to review thousands of pages of documents, nor is he willing to spend more money on it.

Williams is appealing his death sentence for the murders of former Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife Cynthia. They were both murdered by Willams at their home.

His lawyers wanted the judge to delay his ruling.

It was 11 years ago today that the events were set in motion with the murder of Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse. He was assassinated outside the Kaufman County courthouse.

Williams' wife Kim would later testify that Hasse's murder was a revenge killing. Kim Williams pleaded guilty to taking part in the Hasse murder. She is serving a 40-year prison term.
