With the FIFA World Cup set to begin in North Texas in two weeks, federal, state and local law enforcement agencies say extensive security plans are already in place to protect residents and the expected influx of visitors attending matches and related events across the region.
Authorities say the security operation will include an increased police presence, undercover officers, K-9 units, drones, advanced surveillance technology, airspace security measures and coordinated emergency response teams stationed throughout the metroplex.
Arlington Police Chief Al Jones said the department will deploy more officers during World Cup matches than are typically assigned for Dallas Cowboys games at AT&T Stadium.
Officials said security efforts will extend beyond match venues and include Fan Festival sites, transportation hubs, hotels, restaurants and other World Cup-related events. A regional joint operations center will coordinate information sharing and response efforts among participating agencies.
Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux said law enforcement's role will begin as soon as visitors arrive in North Texas. Information booths will be available at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and Dallas Love Field to help international travelers understand local laws and customs.
Comeaux also said police motorcycle units will be deployed to help manage traffic and keep vehicles moving throughout the city, particularly near Fair Park, which is expected to host World Cup-related activities and large crowds.
Officials emphasized that security planning has been underway for months and involves close coordination among local police departments, federal agencies and emergency management teams. The goal, they said, is to provide a safe environment for both residents and the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to travel to North Texas during the tournament.
Authorities are encouraging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, while stressing that visible security measures are designed to ensure the event runs safely and smoothly.
