Police or fire? That is the question in Weatherford, as the two departments fight it out in this year’s Battle of the Badges.

But the annual blood drive is about more than competition.

"Battle of the Badges is really about community," Commander Jason Hayes with Weatherford police says. "It gives us an opportunity to work with our community and have a bit of a friendly competition with our brothers and sisters there at the fire department."

The competition allows people to donate blood while giving them the opportunity to vote for their favorite badge: police or fire. In 2016, police won the very first annual Battle of the Badges Blood Drive … the fire department has won every year since.

"We're out for it this year," Hayes says. "We're going to try to take our trophy back."

The annual blood drive is hosted by the Rotary Club of Weatherford and Carter Blood Care. Mobile donation sites will be available:
