Search and rescue operations continued Wednesday as the death toll from catastrophic flash flooding in Central Texas rose to at least 119 people, including 46 children.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Tuesday that 173 people remain unaccounted for following the widespread flooding that has devastated multiple counties across the region.

The majority of the fatalities — 95 — occurred in Kerr County, where emergency crews are still searching for a counselor and five girls reported missing after floodwaters swept through Camp Mystic, an all-girls summer camp.

Among the dead are seven girls from North Texas who had been attending the camp. The bodies of 24 additional victims have been recovered along the Guadalupe River corridor, which runs through Travis, Williamson, Burnet, Tom Green and Kendall counties.

Authorities say the search for missing persons is ongoing as crews continue combing debris-filled waterways and damaged infrastructure.
