The latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control show the spread of flu is "very high" in Texas. Hundreds of patients have been hospitalized in north Texas because of the flu.
The surge in flu cases comes as many hospitals already have patients with other viruses, including COVID and RSV.
"We've got roughly 300 in Trauma Service Area e with COVID," said DFW Hospital Council CEO Stephen Love. "We've got over 250 with the flu. So I think in three to five days, the flu may overtake COVID."
He says the increase in flu cases could have an impact on hospital staffing levels.
"Staff gets sick too...even though they may have had their flu shots," he said. "So you may have people out sick, because you certainly want the staff to isolate until they're well and they can come back into the workplace."
