A Fort Worth woman gets a sentence of life in prison for a drunk-driving crash that killed a Fort Worth police officer.
A Tarrant County Jury sentenced a woman to life in prison for driving drunk in 2024 when she struck a Fort Worth police officer, killing him. DeAujalae Eans entered a guilty plea last week, just before the trial was set to start.
Fort Worth Sergeant Billy Randolf was assisting with an accident investigation on I-35W in Fort Worth in the summer of 2024 when he was hit by another car that was traveling the wrong way on the exit ramp. He died from his injuries.
Officers arrested Evans and reporting smelling alcohol on her breath. They said she admitted to drinking more than 10 shots of tequila before the crash and her blood alcohol level tested well over the legal limit.
She entered a plea of "guilty" to a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
District Attorney Phil Sorrells commended the Fort Worth Police Department for its dedication in pursuing justice for Sgt. Randolph.
"Sgt. Randolph's death is a heartbreaking reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face everyday," Sorrells said. "Our office is proud to have helped secure justice for him and his family."
