Like many North Texas school districts, Fort Worth public schools are facing financial struggles.
Fort Worth ISD is stretching to cover a $17 million budget shortfall. Monday night at OD Wyatt High School, trustees met with the community to discuss the possibility that some schools might have to be closed as they struggle to come up with ways to secure more money.
The district is considering shutting down up to 21 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and Western Hills High Schools as well as a proposal to build new schools and repurposing existing campuses.
Parents were happy with the level of transparency from the school district after last year's budget shortfall resulted in the layoff of 133 staff members.
No final decisions have been made by the district at this time and they are encouraging the community to continue to take part in discussions.
