A Fort Worth man who admitted to illegally trafficking firearms from Texas to California has been sentenced to nearly a decade in federal prison.

The US Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Texas says 41-year-old Justin Douangmala was charged in July and pleaded guilty the next month. Now, he's been sentenced to nine years in federal prison for conspiracy to traffic firearms.

According to court documents, during a search at Douangmala's Fort Worth home, several firearms and drugs were found.

Cell phone conversations revealed that Douangmala spoke with others about illegal silencers and firearms, and in one instance a caller asked Douangmala to send him photos of weapons he had access to.

Prosecutors say Douangmala admitted to sending multiple firearms from Texas to a convicted felon in California. At the sentencing hearing, it was shown that Douangmala was also receiving large quantities of drugs from the same man in exchange for the firearms.

Douangmala is among the first defendants in the Northern District of Texas to plead guilty to an offense outlined in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, signed into law by President Biden in June 2022.
