Family and friends continue to beg for his life, but unless the US Supreme Court or the Governor of Texas steps in a Fort Worth man is set to be executed tonight for killing his great aunt more than 20 years ago.
His latest appeal has been rejected at the state level, now 41-year old Quintin Jones' last hope is that Governor Greg Abbott change his mind or that the federal courts halt the death sentence.
Jones is convicted of beating his 83-year old great aunt to death with a baseball bat in September 1999.
The sister of the victim, Jones' other great aunt Mattie Long does not want to see him executed. "I know he has changed and I just dont want to see him die like that" said Long.
But the matter is now up to the reviewing courts and Tarrant County Assistant District Attorney Helena Faulkner says this sentence was imposed by a jury.
"The jury makes the ultimate decision by answering the special issues of weather the death sentence is warranted" said Faulkner.
The execution is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville.
