Fort Worth 'Mansion House' heavily damaged by fire

A historically significant house, affectionately known as "The Mansion House," in Fort Worth suffered extensive damage in a fire on Tuesday night.

The house, located at 2117 Northwest 24th St. in the Rosen Heights neighborhood, holds sentimental value for the community. It's known as the "Brown/Tadloch House" and was constructed in 1909 in the Colonial Revival style. It is locally designated as a Historic & Cultural Landmark, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Firefighters faced challenges, including missing staircases, while battling the intense flames, taking nearly an hour to extinguish them.

The 100-year-old house was built for Benjamin B. Brown who worked for Swift and Company. Brown sold the house in 1919 to James A. Tadlock, a successful livestock dealer and broker. Tadlock was a partner in the Livestock Commission Company, Tuttle and Tadlock, which had its offices in the Live Stock Exchange building.

The Tadlock family owned the house until 1978.
