Fort Worth police are ramping up overnight traffic enforcement along key regional highways in an effort to curb high-speed driving and reduce serious accidents.

Drivers traveling on Loop 820 and Interstate 30 will see an increased police presence between 8 p.m. and 4 a.m. daily through October.

The 90-day pilot program is funded by a $7 million allocation from the North Central Texas Council of Governments’ broader $57 million regional safety initiative. Transportation officials identified speed as the primary cause of severe and fatal crashes across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, pointing to Loop 820 and I-30 as frequent hotspots for crashes and extreme speeding exceeding 80 mph.

Once the three-month initiative concludes, officials will analyze crash data and speed metrics to determine whether the high-visibility patrols should expand to other municipalities throughout the region.
