With a new year comes a new set of rules and laws we all must follow. One of these laws in Fort Worth aims to help keep the city a little bit cleaner.
Residents of Funky Town now face fines if their trash or recycle bins are spilling over or if they have loose bags around them.
According to NBC DFW, each overloaded bin will cost residents $6, and each loose bag is an additional $3 charge.
One of the ways the city plans to enforce these new trash violations is by the use of smart trucks.
Christian Harper of Fort Worth's Environmental Services Department Contract Services Administrator- Solid Waste Division explained that these trucks are equipped with cameras that face the curb and take pictures and videos of every home.
If a driver sees a violation, they'll flag it in the system upon which it well be reviewed and decided if there really is a violation. If so, a report is prepared and sent to the city of Fort Worth.
Harper say, “If there's any question on the residents' part of either, 'Hey, I got missed,' or, 'Why did I get a charge?' All of that information can be accessed and shared with the customer so they can see.”
Residents will be allowed to contest any fees or fines.
