A Fort Worth woman is in the fight for her life, and time is not on her side.
April Heileman, 37, is in desperate need for a liver transplant.
Her health problems began in June of 2019, when she collapsed in her apartment.
The root of her health problems is a damaged liver.
"They (doctors) think it's the medications that she was on that did not agree with her fatty liver," says April's mother, Camille Heileman.
Up until a few weeks ago, the family had no idea that time was of the essence.
"They were saying that with a good diet routine and everything, that the liver is forgiving and it will heal back enough to keep her going until later years," says Camille Heileman.
At the end of last month, doctors told Heileman that her liver is so damaged that without a new liver, she would only have months to live.
Camille says doctors gave the family three options.
"One -- to get another insurance policy, because her insurance canceled on her right after the first of the year, so she's with that insurance now," Camille says. "Two -- come up with over $400,000 for a liver transplant; which now that we're researching, it's actually more than that. Or three -- you probably won't make it another two to three months."
Camille says if she's a match, she would gladly donate her liver to her daughter.
"I would give my life for her," she says. "She's got her whole life ahead of her."
Camille -- or any other family member for that manner -- can't even get tested to determine whether they're a match until the family comes up with the money for the life-saving procedure.
Camille Heileman has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise the money needed for her daughter's liver transplant.
