The skyline in the Collin County town of Prosper is getting a big change. Four of the eight grain silos near the railroad tracks on the edge of downtown will be removed to make way for new development.
The silos have been in place for decades. They were used by farmers to store their crops before they were shipped to market on the nearby railroad tracks. The silos have been empty for several years.

The land is currently owned by the Blue Star Corporation. The company plans to demolish four of the silos to make way for a mixed-use development project which would include both residential and retail uses.
Four other silos will remain in place. Three of them are located together. The Town of Prosper is working on a plan to purchase those structures for preservation. A fourth, larger silo is located away from the others and that land is not currently planned for redevelopment.
