The various cities throughout Dallas Fort Worth are pumped going into the FIFA World Cup which finally gets underway Thursday.
In Frisco, they are planning for a number of watch parties for the matches.
Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney says due to the large number of people who want to go to those events, they will see how well they do with the first couple of matches.
"We've had so much interest, but we are really using the first couple of matches just to see how many people, what kind of capacity we could look at," Mayor Cheney said. "Keep looking on the website as we'll keep adding capacity for those tickets."
Cheney says the event is a huge win for Frisco given that it is home to FC Dallas.
They are expecting quite a boost when it comes to interest in soccer especially since Major League Soccer was created when the United States last hosted a World Cup.
"We think there is going to be a major boost from the World Cup for soccer interest here in the United States," Cheney said. "Being the soccer capital of North Texas with FC Dallas, it's going to be a huge win for Frisco."
