Frisco ISD has sent letters to parents notifying them that the district has received subpoenas requesting student records tied to the investigation into the stabbing death of a student athlete during a track meet in April.

In the notice, the district said it is complying with federal law under FERPA - the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act - which requires schools to inform parents when student education records may be disclosed due to a subpoena. The district did not specify whose records were requested or by which agency, citing the ongoing nature of the case.

The stabbing happened on April 25 during a track meet at Frisco’s Heritage High School. A student from another school was arrested and charged in connection with the deadly incident, which stunned the local community and led to a renewed push for enhanced safety measures at school sporting events.

Frisco ISD said the notification is purely procedural and stressed that protecting student privacy remains a top priority.
