FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A member of the Fort Worth ISD Board of Trustees has died.
The school district says District 4 Trustee Daphne Brookins passed away following a brief illness.
It did not specify what her illness was.
"We are deeply saddened by Ms. Brookins' passing," said Fort Worth ISD Superintendent Kent Scribner. "She was always focused on students and never allowed any opportunity to further their needs to be lost. She always wanted to ensure that families received resources that allowed stability and a good education for their children."
Brookins was a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University.
She was first elected to the school board in 2019 to fill the remainder of Dr. T.A. Sims' term and was elected to a full term this past May.
"Words cannot express our devastation and sadness at this news," said Trustee Tobi Jackson, Fort Worth ISD board president. "Ms. Brookins was a champion for kids and a much-valued colleague who embraced her board work with collegiality and dedication. More than that, she was a dear friend whose smile illuminated any room she was in."
Brookins had previously served on the Forest Hill City Council, including a stint as mayor pro tem.
Brookins was preceded in death by her husband, Carl.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
