The Garland City Council has approved a 10-year redevelopment plan designed to encourage economic development by revitalizing existing neighborhoods and commercial areas.
City officials say the strategy focuses on improving parts of Garland one area at a time, with the goal of attracting new private investment and redevelopment projects.
City Manager Mike Betz said the city has little room to expand geographically, making redevelopment of existing properties essential to Garland's long-term growth.
Officials point to recent improvements in downtown Garland as a model for the broader effort. Investments in the downtown district have helped attract new retail businesses, restaurants and apartment developments, and city leaders hope to replicate that success in other parts of the community.
The plan outlines a decade-long approach to upgrading infrastructure, encouraging redevelopment and strengthening commercial corridors as Garland seeks to remain competitive for new businesses and residents.
