Dallas leaders give update on Klyde Warren Park expansion plans

Klyde Warren Park 2.0

Dallas city leaders are providing an update Monday on the next phase of Klyde Warren Park’s expansion, a major project that will add green space and new amenities in the heart of the city.

The so-called Klyde Warren Park 2.0 will extend the popular deck park westward, adding approximately 1.7 acres between St. Paul and Akard streets over the Woodall Rodgers Freeway. Plans include a larger children’s playground and the park’s first indoor event space — a glass-and-steel pavilion with climate-controlled areas for receptions, community gatherings and private events.

The update comes as the city moves forward with the long-planned project, which aims to enhance one of Dallas’ most beloved public spaces. Klyde Warren Park, which opened in 2012, has already transformed the area into a vibrant urban gathering spot, drawing millions of visitors and spurring significant economic development around it.

Officials have described the expansion as a way to meet growing demand for programming and family-friendly features while creating a self-sustaining revenue stream through event rentals and other uses. The pavilion is expected to include flexible indoor space and a rooftop terrace overlooking the city, along with additional lawns for festivals, markets and recreation.

Construction on this phase is anticipated to begin later in 2026, with completion targeted for around 2029. The project has an estimated cost in the range of $120 million and builds on earlier concepts delayed by the pandemic and other factors.

The expansion is expected to further boost the park’s role as a community hub in Uptown and downtown Dallas, providing more opportunities for free public events while supporting the city’s goals for green space and economic vitality in the urban core. No injuries or other incidents are associated with the planning process.

Klyde Warren Park officials and the City of Dallas have emphasized the project’s potential to continue driving positive growth for the surrounding neighborhoods.
